Why Elyria Clients Choose Matthew Hoban Pest Control
Elyria sits at the heart of Lorain County, and its mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and green space creates year-round pest pressure. Warm, humid summers bring mosquitoes and stinging insects. Cooler months push rodents and cockroaches indoors. You need a company that understands those patterns and responds accordingly, not one running the same checklist on every call.
We start by listening. Before recommending any treatment, we take the time to understand how you use your property, where you’ve seen activity, and what your priorities are around safety and disruption. That first conversation shapes every decision we make.
What sets us apart:
- Integrated Pest Management (IPM): IPM is an evidence-based approach recognized by the EPA that combines inspection, monitoring, and targeted treatment rather than broad, repetitive chemical applications. We use it because it supports longer-term pest management through a more responsible approach than blanket spraying.
- Customized service plans: Every property is different. We design treatments around your specific conditions, infestation type, and how the space is actually used.
- Products selected with families and pets in mind: The products we use are selected with children, pets, landscaping, and the local ecosystem in mind.
- Multi-generational family ownership: We treat clients like family because that’s how a family business operates. Personal attention on every job.
- Same-day scheduling and emergency services: We aim to schedule all calls the same day. When something urgent comes up, we’re available for emergency service as well.
- Free phone estimates: No surprises. You’ll know what to expect before we arrive.
Pests We Handle in Elyria
We address a wide range of pest problems for both residential and commercial properties in the Elyria area. Each situation gets a plan built around the specific pest, the property, and the severity of the infestation.
Bed Bugs
Bed bugs spread quickly, especially in multi-unit buildings, and they don’t respond to over-the-counter products the way people hope. Professional treatment targets all life stages and helps reduce the chance of re-infestation.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches are resilient and adaptable. They show up in residential kitchens and commercial food-handling spaces alike. Our targeted approach focuses on the harborage areas where they breed, not just the surfaces you can see.
Rodents
Mice and rats move indoors during Lorain County’s cooler months, seeking warmth and food. Beyond the nuisance, they can damage wiring, insulation, and stored goods. We identify entry points and apply solutions that address the problem at its source.
Mosquitoes
Elyria’s warm summers and areas with standing water fuel active mosquito seasons. We treat breeding zones and resting areas to help reduce populations around your property.
Fleas and Ticks
Pets and adjacent green spaces are common introduction routes. Ticks in Ohio can carry Lyme disease, making prompt treatment important for properties where people and animals spend time outdoors.
Stinging Insects
Wasps and hornets are active from spring through fall in Northeast Ohio. Nests near high-traffic areas of your home or business pose real risks, and removal is best left to a professional.

-
What is the difference between your service and other companies?
Most other companies will rely exclusively on using rodenticides or poisons to clear out activity in home. This leads to odor issues and will not necessarily provide any additional information about the activity inside the structure. Our technique helps track where activity is present and confirm that entry has been properly sealed.
Competitors frequently charge separately for exclusion work around the home. We believe without sealing the outside of the structure there will never be true resolution to the issue. Treatment and exclusion must be performed at the same time to gain proper resolution.
-
How do you seal up the home?
The sealing, or exclusion, technique depends greatly on the situation. Our priority is always to achieve effective rodent proofing without affecting the cosmetics of the home.
We use rodent resistant polymers, silicones, mesh, screening, lathe, and a variety of other methods depending on the situation and type of rodent.
-
How do you determine where mice are getting in the home?
To find rodent entryways into the home we use two methods.
The first is done by thoroughly inspecting the exterior of the structure using mirrors, cameras, and ultraviolets to locate evidence of historic activity or potential entry into the structure. Once we have inspected and sealed around the full exterior of the structure, we use trap placements on the inside of the home to confirm that those entry points are correct. By performing a high volume trapping we can verify exactly where activity is present and where they are entering.
